Buy ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit WiFi Router

The RT-AC66U from Asus is packed full of features, including a dual core CPU, USB 3.0 port, Quality of Service (QoS) and offers reliable, fast wireless AC speeds. This performance and feature set not only makes it our pick for the best WiFi router on the market, but also among the most well-reviewed routers listed on Amazon.

Although the RT-AC66U has now been on the market for a few years, having already had a successor (the RT-AC68U) released, it still offers some of the best performance around, as well as having the benefit of having had its retail price slashed, making it one of the best WiFi router buys around. Sure, there are better, newer routers available, however don’t think that the RT-AC66U’s advancing years make it any less of a competitor, offering performance that is comparable to the latest routers from the biggest tech names, all at a price point that won’t break the bank.

The RT-AC66U will appeal to all sorts of web users, from those for whom high performance is an absolute must, such as gamers and business users, to more casual, home users, this WiFi router has something for everyone.

The Netgear AC1900 R7000 is a beautifully designed, dual-band WiFi router that really packs a punch, despite its lacking a built-in ADSL modem, meaning that you’ll likely need to purchase an external modem separately to use with it.

The Netgear R7000 boasts an array of ports, including BOTH USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, four LAN ports and a WAN port, and is the fastest WiFi router from Netgear’s AC1900 series to date, making it fast enough for even high performance users, including gamers, and offers reliable, stable connectivity, even over fairly long distances. When it comes to software, this Netgear router isn’t the most user friendly router on the market, however if you’ve got some tech savvy or have used any Netgear router in the past you should be able to navigate your way through its software with relative ease. If however you’re more of a casual, non-tech savvy user who is looking for a router that works right out of the box, the netgear AC1900 R7000 likely isn’t for you.

Last but not least, the performance offered by this router ranks among the very best, offer some of the fastest wireless connectivity on the market, making it a must-have for avid gamers and other users for whom high performance is an absolute must. Most powerful router I have ever had., 22 October 2015

Great router, I bought this to replace the one provided by my ISP which was useless. It is really powerful and the signal strength is phenomenal. The data transfer speed is impressive for wireless performance and I haven’t had any issues with devices losing signal or the signal dropping out. Well worth the money if you need to get signal all over the house an only want one router instead of a series of repeaters. The triband is really helpful allowing me to put all the ac devices on the 5Ghz band and all the n and g devices on the 2.4Ghz band. This really does make a difference when you have a variety of devices connected of various ages. It does prevent the faster band from becoming slow. Overall I am really happy with this router and it looks okay, I have had comments that it looks like a spider on the wall but I am okay with it.

so I decided to splash out and buy a router with some excellent reviews. I am pleased I did, 19 October 2015

I have been having trouble with my internet ever since I changed provider some 16 months ago. The problem? A cheap and ineffective ISP router that was probably faulty from the start and provided by them, so I decided to splash out and buy a router with some excellent reviews. I am pleased I did. Dull spots in my house no more. Hanging internet pages; gone! Slow downloads; stopped. I cannot believe how much I have been missing using ISP’s routers. It DOES pay to pay out some decent money. You can see quite clearly if the internet is down rather than be concerned with ‘is it me’ or ‘is it my I.T.’ The Netgear Genie that you can download is excellent at getting you connected and also for ironing out any niggling connection issues that you may have due to your settings. I have also bought a 64GB USB 3.0 stick to back up all of my files automatically by the router and this appears to work fine. Word of warning. The only thing you may need to be aware of is that if your internet keeps going down, (especially if you have been away for the weekend and come home to find that you have an orange warning light illuminated), you may need to change the settings. The router can disconnect from your ISP if you keep the default 5 minute idle setting. You need to select the ‘always on’. Was really easy to set up. Just remember that you need your email address and password from your ISP to get the internet working.

This thing is a life saver!

I upgraded my 256GB SSD in my MacBook to a JetDrive 960GB. Alas, 5 months later it failed to start first time and had to run First Aid to get it to work. That was the red flag. I immediately bought one of these things and it backed my whole MacBook up. 2 months later the JetDrive failed completely (I’ve sent it back for a replacement). I refitted the 256GB SSD, “Entered” the Time Machine and it restored everything I needed without any fuss. Also, because Mac OS X stores apps as one file, it is a synch to restore any apps I bought. Simply enter the Time Machine, select a date to go back to, click on the app or file you want and click restore and it does it. A word of warning though. When you first back up your machine, if it’s a more recent MacBook, invest in a USB to ethernet dongle and plug into the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable otherwise it could take up to a day to do the first back up via WiFi.

Powerful & Easy-to-Use, 22 January 2016

My old router provided very sporadic coverage around the house. This one covers the whole place with no dropped connections. Setting it up was extremely easy and should present no problem to anyone – even a complete novice – but it also has a load of powerful features that allows a networking expert to customize their setup as much as they could wish ie QoS etc. Streaming throughout my house is now a lovely cache-free experience! A really great product.
